I'm fat but I can still skate 90.3 miles

Well saturday morning came quickly.  After tanglewood i kept telling myself, just loose 10lbs, that will make it a little easier.  But with Bobbi being stressed from school and work, the junk food kept coming in and we kept eating out.  I have no will power.  So with less then 300 miles in over the summer, including tanglewood, I told myself I was going to finish the Carolina Century.  I had all my stuff ready, checked my beat up old skates, they seemed to roll alright.  Thanks to Blake, I at least had wheels that were half decent.

Workout Challenge 'cause I am tired of being fat!! Inline Skate, Run, Swim, Ride Your Bike (Bicycle), Walk, Get Moving

Kind of been out of the loop for a while, but am determined to get back into it.  I have been procrastinating getting started me training for a triathlon that my wonderful wife signed me up for in June.  I have known about this since my birthday in November, but have come up with every excuse in the book to not train.  Something to watch on tv, too cold, too hot, blah blah blah...we have all heard it.  Well  the end comes today for me.  No more excuses!  This is where the challenge comes in.  Post here what you did for the day as far as exercise.

Go Canada!!

We are not as big as the US so I am not expecting a huge medal count, but I think we are holding our own.  Finally have one for speedskating! Nesbitt in the 1000m.  We will see what happens in hockey.  The Canadian Womens team is looking pretty strong!

Recumbent Exercise Bike Better for Me than Bike Trainer

I recently purchased a recumbent exercise bike to ride after my daughter goes to bed, as it is hard to get out as much as i would like with a 2.5 year old.  Its nothing fancy, a Proform XP110 from Sears.  I had a magnetic trainer for my road bike, but it's noisy and it just feels unnatural to be in that position on a normal road bike and not move for 30 minutes to an hour.

Boxing Gym Training to Get in Shape

My wife Bobbi bought me a membership at a boxing gym and some private lessons to try and get me into shape. I have been complaining a lot lately so I guess she wanted to shut me up and stop the complaining. The gym I go to has 3 different coaches. A conditioning coach and a couple of technique coaches. I really like the sessions with the conditioning coach because its all just calisthenics and its nice to have someone there to push you when you really thought that you couldn't possibly do another set. I am no where near where i want to be but this is a nice start and its a lot of fun too.

new frames

I just put on my new frames that i bought off ebay.  I purchased those 100x3+84 Salomon's.  I bought some cheapie wheels online somewheres.  I skated around my neighborhood with them and am quite pleased.  The 84 rubbed a bit, but once i got on them they flattened out.  Thats what happens when you dint train at all....you flatten your wheels.  I am even happy with the wheels.  I was braking quite alot and there is no visible wear on them.  They are the red clear Kryptonics.  I was kind of scared that they were going to be heavy old scooter wheels, but they are pretty good.

Tour to Tanglewood 100 mile option

Hello Everyone,

I don't want to preach but i have a few concerns about skaters doing the 100 Mile option for the tour.   The course is all new for the first 25 miles due to some road construction.  The 100 milers will start at 7:30am, turning off the main route to ride all three loops. Each loop rejoins the main route. If you don’t want to go that far but want an extra challenge, start with everyone else at 8:00am and choose any loop. You must reach a loop’s starting point before closing time.  The Century option is designed for experienced cyclists who have trained to complete 100 miles in one day.  The first loop is before rest stop 2; 21 extra miles, closes at 10am.  The second loop is before rest stop 3; 16 extra miles, closes at noon.  The third loop starts past the Tanglewood gate, 15 extra miles, closes at 2pm.  Now if you can do the speeds to keep ahead of all the time cut offs, go for it.  I just would like for us skaters not to be the last ones on the course.  Last year i came in early and was sitting near the finish line.  There were still some skaters on the course, and lots and lots of cyclists, but all you heard on the radios was "there are still skaters on the course".  They didn't say a lot about the cyclists, but they wanted to get the point across that there were still skaters on the course.
