Joey Mantia Slow Motion 300fps Inline Skating Speed Outdoor Track Video: What do you notice?

Check out this video of Joey Mantia on an outdoor track, in slow motion video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9jbxcxJELQ Notice anything specific? (Other than muscles, I mean!) Anyone know where the video was getaken? [Later: I think I found it and have it pinned on the map. I'm sure eebee can help with the meaning of the title...sounds like community health insurance commission or similar, but the googlemaps note says it's an outdoor, covered, 200m track. Sweet.] Thanks to Brian R for posting that link on the skating social list.

Fresh Snow, Dreams Deferred, Two Young Friends of Decades Past, President Obama, the United States, and the Inauguration of 2009

After some days of often solitary study, testing, learning, failures and some successes (think Ubuntu Server, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Nginx, lighttpd, Memcache, Varnish, Squid, Alternative PHP Cache), I drifted to sleep as though it were the night before Christmas. Would there be snow? Would there be joy? So I awoke early on Inauguration Day 2009 with anticipation, and yes, my world had been treated to a fresh forgiveness of snow outside.

Skating in the New Year 2009 in Glenwood Neighborhood of Greensboro North Carolina

This year we wimped a bit on the skating in the new year bit, but we did go out for 20 or 30 minutes in Glenwood neighborhood, eebee and myself. The temp was in the upper 20s so we didn't stay out too long. We took a few photos, and I'll probably include a couple of them here. Enjoy.

Roadskubuntu 64 Out for a Spin on the Slow, Crowded Internet Onramp with a $215 AMD 64 X2 Vista 32 Ubuntu 64 Box

Well after many months of running on empty on an overused underpowered system, Roadskater.net is rolling on the same slow road to the internet highway but with a faster machine...a dual-core amd cpu (not blazing, just 2.2 GHz or so), lots of hard drive space, and 3 gig of DDR-2 800 RAM (waiting to go to 8G soon). I'm not sure if this kit is a bit overclocked but my memtest reports moving faster than claimed. Anyway this whole kit (3G RAM version) ended up at $215 pre-tax as a demo sale so cross thy fingerettes me skateys.

Holiday Shopping Deals That Help Roadskater.net Too: Forerunner 305 for just $150, Much More

Some have asked if there's a way to help Roadskater.net other than donating money, and here is one that won't cost anything. In general, if you plan to buy anything on ebay.com or amazon.com, if you can visit roadskater.net and do the first search from the sidebar ebay and amazon search boxes, that helps (especially if you end up joining ebay and buying or selling something not long afterward).

Where Do Those TSA and Other Security Confiscated Pen Knives, Manicure Scissors, Skate Tools Go? How About Stolen Guitars?

I bet you've had a skate tool taken now and then at airport security, right? I did. I had a somewhat sentimental first edition roadskater.net (home-branded) long handle Allen wrench taken when I boarded with my skates, forgetting to put the tool in luggage. They were entirely uncaring and unhelpful of course.

Maybe USPS could have Priority Mail boxes and APCs there and we could mail them to ourselves! The government would make some money but at least in the service of us keeping our personal stuff, instead of them making money off our personal stuff. Huh?

Shani Davis Shows How to Skate: Full Extension, Heel Push

Check out this article on Shani Davis, who was amazing last year in the World Cup season (indoor long track) and has taken three of four individual events in his specialties this year already. The news may be aimed at the X vs. Y junk (now that elections are mostly over) between Davis and Hedrick, who joined with Trevor Marsicano to place 2nd in the team pursuit, but the most important part may be the photo (apparently from the 2006 Olys, eh?).

Tour de Georgia 2009 Pro Cycling Race Flats Out

It looks like I'll have a bit of extra free time, sadly, and a bit less life, particularly the life of watching cycling via internet streaming video...for 2009 at least. In the year that Lance Armstrong may be coming back, it seems he won't be coming back to the Tour de Georgia because it won't be there according to the foundation that owns the tour.

Carolina Century Rest Stop One Skater Host's Photos

Hi to all. Some of the first photos to show up are the ones by Amy in charge of the 12- and 63-mile Rest Stop, who was ably assisted by many, most notably by her mom, Margaret. Thank you both for making it possible for me to sleep a bit in the days leading up to the RSNCC, knowing Scalesville Fire Station was covered. You helped me feel good enough to skate on the day, too, so thanks! Check out the pics. I took around 700, so it'll be awhile! http://sk8orbike.com/SkatePictures/Forms/AllItems.aspx

Mark Sibert Rolls in First Among Inline Skaters as Roadskater.net Carolina Century Raises $1025 for Charity

For those who don't know we had 8 skaters (4 from Georgia, 4 from NC) and 57 cyclists at the inaugural Roadskater.net Carolina Century (carolinacentury.com), which raised $1025 after expenses. The proceeds will be donated in the names of the volunteers to the MS society (or at their option to select charity cycling events that benefit individuals with sudden catastrophic challenges in their lives).

Dopers, Testers, Tests, Lance Armstong, Tour de France, Vuelta, Giro, Garmin-Chipotle

Well the Tour de France route for 2009 has come out, and there's some new old stuff, like the Team Time Trial is back. Some say this makes Lance Armstrong more likely to show up, some say less, and he seems to want some assurances from the organizers about respectful treatment or some such.

Meanwhile Contador sounded welcoming at first, but lately perhaps less so, and Vino's name has surfaced as well. Nothing solid here from me...just some impressions.

Skatin' Ain't Cyclin' but Draftin' is Still Draftin' Even on Hills! Cycling, Maybe Inline Skating, the Big Hills

Well not much to say here but there was a pretty interesting little piece in VeloNews wherein they attempted to answer whether drafting was a good idea on hills or is it just down to the power of the individual skater...i typed that but i meant...cyclist.
