Join hundreds of inline skaters from around the USA to burn up the streets of South Beach, Miami Beach, Miami and more. Times approximate. More details to come. This one was modeled on the Philly Freedom Skate and they've done it right with full police support and a charity focus for great safe fun in a busy place. Do this at least once before you say you're not interested! You may change your mind... Blake

Impeccable cycling event that welcomes skaters, run by the residents of Gray's Chapel, NC. The organizers have perfected the art of keeping it simple, yet effective, offering door prizes to pretty much every participant, and raising money to help out needy members of their community through the Gray's Chapel Lions Club. It's only $20 for advanced registration, and $25 on the day.

This weekend Greensboro, NC, hosts the 10th annual and final Cirque du Cyclisme, an international celebration of vintage and handmade bicydes. Dale Brown of Cycles de Oro has been putting on this event for ten years now and it has grown to be a major happening among collectors of classic lightweight bikes, but Dale has announced that this will be the last one. (It will be continued in a somewhat different guise somewhere else--likely northern Virginia, word has it--but this is it for central NC.)

This is a bike ride that has welcomed skaters for the past few years. Some of the Atlanta Peachtree Roadrollers do this event each year and always give it great reviews. Here's what I have learned from the website, www.cartersvillecentury.org:

Not sure of the details yet, but Ken's is always a nice ride. It has a couple of tricky spots for skaters, with a downhill into a busy road on the way back, and a long downhill with a sweeping right into a stop sign on the optional repeat loop.

This event falls on the Saturday following the July 4th holiday.

Here are some photos from the 2002 ride.

I haven't done this one myself so I have nothing to add about the environs, but I'm sure, like all the rest, it will be a well-supported ride.

At Tour de Kale the organizers of Operation Red Sleigh were enthusiastic about our inline skating that event and encouraged us to come try Operation Red Sleigh. We'll have to find out more about the routes perhaps, but we're definitely welcome on bikes or skates.

Operation Red Sleigh benefits families in Randolph County who are in need, especially at Christmas, with toys, clothes and food.

Celebrate one of the hardest working and most "giving back" bike shops around by attending this free Tour to Tanglewood Training Ride. Bring your brake for the downhill into Latham Park which is a likely route, and be ready for a few hills on the way back to the shop and a great finish line rest stop. Not sure yet if I'm going to be able to take part this year, but it's not because I'm not yearning to. Most years I try to find some safer, park-like hills to see approximately how fast I can charge up and down 6.2 miles of hills before I sign up, just because I want to have a hope of beating my best time. However, it's almost impossible to duplicate the effort because it's held on a closed-course road, devoid of toddlers and dogs. Stone Mountain Park, GA, offers the best, similar conditions to estimate how long it'll take you to complete the US10K course.

Come out for our social skate and ride at Bur-Mil to meet others skating and riding the Tour to Tanglewood for MS. Show up early if you can to get your jersey, and join us for dinner afterward. Search for "Bur-Mil Park, Greensboro NC" in maps.google.com for directions.
Start: 2007.09.14 6:45 pm
End: 2007.09.14 9:00 pm
Here's another event, and this one's important if you can manage a reply, so I can plan for dinner. Things may change but as it stands we'll shoot for being at Lucky 32 by 6:45. The main thing to reply about is "will you attend the team dinner this year, wherever or whenever it happens to be?" The team dinner, like the Prologue Skride, is optional and open, but may not be too interesting to those not skating or riding or visiting the tour. You may add invitees to either RSVP. Let me know ASAP! I'll have the jerseys at dinner as well.

Adrenaline will surge on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 7:30 a.m. as the gun signals the start of the largest inline marathon and ARC (American Roller Cup) Series event in the U.S.A.! Following the same scenic course Grandma's marathoners have run along for the past 30 years, nearly 4,000 inline skaters will test their endurance in the 12th Annual NORTHSHORE INLINE MARATHON.

Come skate or ride with well over a thousand cyclists and roadskaters as we raise money for the National MS Society and its local chapter. There's much more to say but not for now as I'm going to go skate!

I just wanted to share an event here in Randolph county. The sk/ride starts out in Asheboro and goes through various parts of Randolph county. The roads are usually pretty decent but there are a lot of hills, great if your into that. I have spoken to the director and it is ok for skaters to come. I think this would be a great way to increase the awareness of skating in our area.If you are interested post a note here and I can help answer questions.  Registration costs $20 in advance $25 day of...inexpensive, and you get a T-shirt while they last.

Danny's InlineNC write-up, after skating this Bloomington, IN, cycling event back in 2005, got me dreaming about taking part in 2006. Well I completely missed it. It was the weekend right after A2A. However, I'd like to try to make it in 2007, because the course sounds and looks outrageously hilly, and hilly = fun, right?! If you go to their homepage and click on "2005 photo contest winners" you will see what I mean about the hills. By the way, what a great idea to help promote an event: a photo competition.

This is potentially a huge week for walkers, cyclists, skaters and other lovers of human-powered transportation, whether you are from North Carolina or just visit here for leisure activities, or even to raise money for the good folk of North Carolina and the rest of the world who have Multiple Sclerosis, or for other great causes.

A2A is over, the leg-swelling is gone, the let-down has set in and I'm itching for another excuse to spend a long day skating. I am happy to find that the Claxton, GA, Chamber of Commerce is putting on another 'Cruisin' in the Country' (cycling) event this year. Blake and I, plus Keno, Mark Day and some other APRR skaters took part in this great event back in 2003 (on skates).
